In an attempt to provide relief to traffic policemen who have to stand in the sun for long periods, an AC helmet developed by students of IIM Vadodara is being tested by traffic police departments. After Vadodara Traffic Police, now Lucknow Traffic Police is also using these helmets. In most parts of the country where the outdoor temperature reaches 40-45 degrees Celsius. These AC helmets can prove helpful in providing coolness to the traffic policemen there.
Lucknow Traffic Police officials said that currently AC helmets are being used on a trial basis. The traffic police officers stationed in Lucknow, the state capital of Uttar Pradesh, were given these helmets. In the upcoming days, more of these helmets will be given to their staff.
The intense sun is lessened in part by wearing this helmet. With a battery life of up to eight hours, these AC helmets are battery-operated. Police officers wear a battery-powered helmet that is fastened around their waist. About 500 grams is the weight of the helmet, which is the same as the weight of a typical helmet. The vents on these AC helmets aid in ventilation. It also has a visor that shades the eyes from the sun.
Earlier, traffic policemen in Vadodara and Kanpur have also tested these AC helmets. According to Lucknow's Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Ajay Kumar, if these helmets prove successful, they will be given to traffic officers across the state. “This helmet is powered by a waist-carrying battery and needs to be recharged approximately every eight hours,” Kumar said.
Responding to the trial run, traffic policemen posted in Lucknow who have used the AC helmets say they can perform better in the sun. He also said that AC helmets are comfortable to wear.
