Two mobile apps have been taken down from Google and Apple's app stores. These two smartphone apps provide eSIM functionality. These two applications are called Holafly and Airalo.

In response to a directive from the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), both of these apps have been taken down from the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store. Internet service providers (ISPs) around the nation were requested by the Department of Telecommunications to disable access to these applications and associated websites.

According to the Amar Ujala report, these companies need to obtain a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from DoT to start selling and providing services of eSIM in India, but none of them considered it necessary. One of these companies is from Singapore and the other is from Spain. Both of them did not have NOC.

Additionally, according to DoT, only approved dealers are permitted to sell or service eSIMs, and before an eSIM is issued, clients will be required to provide identification. The Global SIM Security Agency must get this information from E-SIM sellers.

The E-SIM is a software-based SIM card that requires a QR code to activate. Only the relevant telecom firm can activate an eSIM. An actual SIM card is not required for this. Eight e-SIMs can now be placed in one iPhone.
