Accused of gold smuggling brought to India from Saudi Arabia, Interpol issued red notice
CBI issued a red notice against accused Shaukat Ali on 13 September 2021. After this, this red notice was sent to all the member countries of Interpol, so that if the accused is in their country, he can be arrested from there.
A Saudi Arabian suspect in the gold smuggling case has been brought to India. The CBI's efforts resulted in the accused being brought to India. Additionally, the accused had received a red notice from Interpol. In 2020, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) reported a gold smuggling case. One of the accused in this case, Shaukat Ali, has been brought to India.
In fact, in July 2020, about 18.5 kg of gold was smuggled from Saudi Arabia to Jaipur. NIA is investigating this matter. NIA had accused 18 people in its charge sheet, which included Shaukat Ali. Shaukat Ali was wanted in a gold smuggling case in India and was living in Saudi Arabia for a long time. The value of the 18 kg gold bars seized was estimated to be around Rs 9 crore. This gold was brought to India hidden in the battery of an emergency light.
On September 13, 2021, the CBI sent out a red notice to Shaukat Ali, the accused. The accused can then be arrested from any of the Interpol member nations if he is present there thanks to the red notice that was subsequently sent to all of them. Police in Saudi Arabia detained the suspect after they received the Interpol notice. The accused was subsequently brought to India with the assistance of the CBI's Global Operations Centre, which also helped the CBI coordinate with the Saudi National Central Bureau Agency.
