Eight retired Indian Navy officers have been detained in Doha, Qatar. However, the reason for his detention has not been revealed. All the officers worked in a company providing training and other services to the Qatari Emiri Navy.
According to reports, the Indian Embassy in Doha is aware of this. Recently, while giving information about this on Twitter, a woman named Mitu Bhargava wrote – For 57 days, 8 retired officers of the Indian Navy have been kept in illegal custody.
According to a report in The Indian Express, the former Navy officer used to work in a company named Dahra Global Technologies and Consultancy Services. This company is a local business partner of Qatar Defense and other security agencies and maintains defence equipment. The name of the CEO of this company is Khamis Al Ajmiq. He was the Squadron Leader of the Royal Oman Air Force. Now retired.
Commander Purnendu Tiwari (Retd) is also among the eight Indians taken into custody. He received the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award from the then-President of India Ram Nath Kovind in 2019. His profile on the company's website reads - Purnendu commanded a minesweeper and a large warship in the Indian Navy.
