RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das has recorded for being the longest-serving governor in 67 years. The tenure of 67-year-old Das is ending on December 10. It is believed that this time he will not get the extension. In such a situation, after the assembly elections, the government can start searching for a new governor.

In 2018, Shaktikanta Das was appointed as the Governor of the Reserve Bank of India, commonly referred to as RBI. After doing better work in Corona, he got an extension of three years. If he gets an extension of more than 18 months, then he can set a record for the longest tenure as governor in the history of the central bank. Previously, between July 1949 and January 1957, there was a governor, Benegal Rama Rao, for more than seven years.

The meeting of the RBI's Monetary Policy Committee i.e. MPC will be held between 4-6 December. Das recently said on the rate cut by Union Minister Piyush Goyal that he would respond to it in December. In such a situation, it is believed that Das can cut rates once before leaving. However, the decision will have to be taken by the MPC.

However, many economists tend to believe that Das, because he handled the economy during such shocks as the pandemic, is seen favoring an extension. According to Upasana Bhardwaj, Chief Economist, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Das has been doing an incredible job. There's a high likelihood of an extension in his term. During Das's tenure, foreign exchange reserves of the country remained at record levels of $ 700 billion, ranking fourth in the world.
