5G subscribers expected to be 80 crores by 2030, target is 24 crore broadband connections

By 2030, 24 crore homes in India will require broadband service connections, costing Rs 4.2 lakh crore. At the Broadband India Forum (BIF) conference, Prashant Singhal, an EY Global Partner, stated as much. According to him, there are currently just four crore homes in the nation with broadband connections.

Singhal said that at present the number of 5G subscribers in the country is around 16 crores which will increase to 80 crores by 2030. Currently per capita data consumption every month is 24 GB which will increase to 75 GB per month in 2030. Singhal said that there are immense opportunities in India. We want to be among the top three economies of the world.

We currently have a 13 percent broadband penetration rate when compared to the top 4-5 economies. Up to 80% of it must be consumed. Currently, 92% of American homes, 97% of Chinese homes, 84% of Japanese homes, and 82% of German homes have access to broadband internet.

Singhal said that currently in India, 3.6 crore houses in urban areas and 30 lakh houses in rural areas have broadband connections. By 2030, we need to take this number to 100 million and 153 million respectively. BIF President TV Ramachandran said India's current fixed broadband availability cannot keep pace with the increasing data consumption.
