5 lakh people registered on Sahara Refund Portal, process of refund started

As soon as the portal was launched for a refund of deposits in co-operative societies of Sahara Group, long queues of claimants started forming. Regarding this, the country's Cooperative Minister Amit Shah said on Friday that five lakh investors have registered on the portal and the process of refunding their money has started. The CRCS-Sahara Refund Portal was launched on July 18 to facilitate refunds of stranded investors in four cooperative societies of the Sahara Group. Earlier, the government had said that the money would be returned to the 10 crore investors of the four cooperative societies within 9 months. Shortly after the opening of this portal, more than 5 lakh people have staked their claims.
This announcement came after the order of the Supreme Court, in which it was directed to transfer Rs 5,000 crore from the Sahara-SEBI refund account to the Central Registrar of Cooperative Societies (CRCS). Addressing the National Mega Conclave on the launch of Common Service Center (CSC) services by Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS) here, Shah said that so far 5 lakh people have registered in the portal and the process of refunding money to genuine depositors has started.
He said that this is an important example that even the most complex problems can be solved if the government works in a proactive manner. The portal has been developed for the submission of claims by genuine depositors of Sahara Group Cooperative Societies - Sahara Credit Cooperative Society Limited, Saharayan Universal Multipurpose Society Limited, Hamara India Credit Cooperative Society Limited, and Stars Multipurpose Cooperative Society Limited.
