The 38-year-old satellite will hit the earth: most of it will end up in space, America's first female astronaut left in orbit
NASA's 38-year-old ERBS satellite is about to hit the earth. While giving information on Friday, NASA has told that the chances of its debris falling on anyone are very less. Most of the satellites would have been destroyed before they entered the Earth's atmosphere. Although some pieces of the 2450 kg satellite are likely to fall on the earth.
The ERBS satellite was released into orbit by America's first female astronaut, Sela Ride, from the robotic arm of the Space Shuttle Challenger. This was the first mission in which an American woman astronaut, Katherine Sullivan, did a spacewalk. For the first time, two female astronauts went into space together on this mission.
According to the US Defense Department, this satellite can hit the earth by tonight. At the same time, according to the aerospace company of California, it will hit the earth by Monday morning. This satellite NASA will pass through many continents. There will be a track to pass through Africa, Asia, the Middle East and then North and South America as well.
The 38-year-old satellite ERBS i.e. Earth Radiation Budget Satellite was launched in the year 1984. It was launched from Space Shuttle Challenger only for 2 years to give information about Earth radiation. Through this satellite, an attempt was made to measure how much energy of the Sun enters the Earth's atmosphere and how much it returns after colliding with the Earth's atmosphere. The satellite worked till 2005 instead of 2 years.
