220 new airports to be built in next 5 years, airport capacity of metro cities will be doubled

Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, giving details of the development in the aviation sector during the BJP's 9-year tenure, said that the government's target is to build 200 to 220 airports in the country in the coming five years.

Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said that the Indian aviation sector will expand more rapidly in the coming five years. In the coming five years, 200 to 220 airports will be built in the country.
Apart from the airport, a heliport and water aerodrome will also be built in the country. Apart from this, the work of making greenfield and brownfield airports is also going on. Scindia today informed about the development works done in the aviation sector during the nine years tenure of BJP.
Aviation Minister Scindia said that the airport capacity of the country's 6 metro cities, Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, and Kolkata, is currently 22 crore, which is targeted to be doubled.
Apart from this, if Navi Mumbai and Jewar airports are added, then the target is to cross the total capacity of 41.5 crores in the next 8 years. Scindia informed that the number of airports has increased from 74 to 148 in the last 9 years and 220 airports, heliports, and water aerodromes will be constructed in the country in the coming five years.
Scindia said that a total of 8 airports have been built in the northeastern part of the country and also in those areas where there was no airport earlier. The Aviation Minister said that after 9 years of BJP rule, there are three airports in Arunachal Pradesh and one in Sikkim.
Jyotiraditya Scindia told that the government's capex of 1 lakh crore is fixed in the airport sector. With 1 lakh crore rupees and by adding 25 to 30 thousand crore rupees, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) will be formed together with the rest of the private sector.
AAI will spend this money on 42 brownfields and 3 greenfield airports and the private sector will spend on 4 brownfields and 3 greenfield airports.
