On 15 August in the year 1947, India got independence from British rule. This freedom obtained after many sacrifices is special in many ways, but if we look at it from the point of view of cricket, not many matches have been played on this day, but two such Indian cricketers were definitely born on this day.
The birthdays of both these Indian star cricketers are always remembered. Former Indian all-rounder Vijay Bhardwaj and former woman cricketer Hemlata Kala were born on Independence Day. Let us know in detail about both of these players.
Vijay Bharadwaj (born 15 August 1975) is a right-handed Indian batsman and off-spinner. Vijay started his career in the year 1999. Apart from India, teams from Kenya and South Africa were playing in the triangular series held in Nairobi. In that series, Vijay bowled brilliantly and took a total of 10 wickets, and scored 89 runs without being dismissed.
Vijay used to play wearing spectacles. He used to perform brilliantly wearing glasses both while batting and bowling. He was touted as the next big star of the Indian cricket team, but Vijay played only three Tests and 10 ODIs for India in his career.
Vijay was given the problem of a slipped disc, after recovering from which he got his eyes operated on. He said that he used to play with glasses on. In such a situation, someone advised him to undergo an operation to remove the spectacles, but after that, his eyesight decreased and he had to bear the brunt of it. Because of this, Vijay Bhardwaj's international cricket also ended soon.
Hemlata Kala was born on 15 August 1975 in Agra, UP. She was one of the important players in Indian women's cricket.
Hemlata played 7 Tests, 78 ODIs and one T20 match for the Indian women's team from 1999 to 2008. Hemlata ended her Test career with an average of over 50 runs.
However, luck did not favor him in ODIs. He was able to score only 1023 runs in 78 ODIs at an average of 20. She has also been a part of the team that reached the final of the Women's World Cup in 2005. In the year 2021, he was given a new responsibility by the BCCI. She was made the coach of the Indian B team for the Senior Women's Challenger Trophy.
