175 American citizens in Taliban captivity in Afghanistan: Family members are prohibited from speaking in public, Foreign Minister said – they will be released soon
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken issued a statement on Thursday saying that 175 of his citizens are still in Taliban captivity. The government is trying its best to get them out of there. Actually, America had withdrawn all its troops from Afghanistan in August 2021. After this, fearing the Taliban coming to power, countries around the world conducted operations to evacuate their citizens from Afghanistan. America had also evacuated many Afghans including its citizens due to fear of security.
The US Secretary of State disclosed the number of US citizens trapped in Taliban captivity during a discussion on American Diplomacy. America Foreign Affairs Committee was getting this discussion done. Blinken said that the government cannot reveal the identity of the family members of the Americans who are still trapped in Afghanistan. Also, he has been prohibited from talking publicly on this issue.
To corner the Biden administration, Republicans are probing America's sudden decision to withdraw from Afghanistan. Trump's party alleges that the decision to leave Afghanistan was taken in haste. Due to this 13 American people died. Biden announced on April 14, 2021, that by September 11, 2021, the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, US and NATO forces would have withdrawn from Afghanistan.
But, Biden ordered the troops to leave Afghanistan before the deadline. He had said that now not a single soldier should be killed in Afghanistan.
