Assam's short film included in the Oscar race: 15-minute film prepared in a college project, nominated in the fiction category
Qualifying in the Oscar race for a short film made in a student project is nothing less than a dream. Something similar happened with Maharishi Tuhin Kashyap, whose short film has been nominated in the race for Oscar 2023. Actually, Maharishi Tuhin had prepared a student project for Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute. The name of this movie is 'Mur Ghurar Duronto Goti', which is made in the Assam language. Recently, the film won the Best Film Award at the Bangalore International Short Film Festival. After winning the award at the film festival, this short film is now ready for the Oscar race.
Who is Tuhin Kashyap?
Maharishi Tuhin Kashyap hails from Guwahati and has graduated from Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute. Even before this, Tuhin Bulu has also made films on the film, Boroxan Song of Rain and the problem of water in the North East.
'Mur Ghurar Duronto Goti' is the story of a man who believes that he has the fastest horse in the world. He can win any race in the world with this horse. But in reality, he does not have a horse but a donkey. The combination of humour and folk dance is seen in the short film.
Assam's famous actor Atul Pachani is in the lead role in this film. Since the film is produced by a student of the institute, most of its crew members are college students. While most of the scenes of the short film have been shot inside the campus, many scenes have also been shot at the outer location of Kolkata. The short film has previously been screened at the Chinateca National Museum in Mexico City and the Kolkata International Film Festival. If this film wins an Oscar, it will be nothing short of a dream.
