14,903 crore approved for expansion of Digital India program, training will be given to 6.25 lakh IT professionals
Electronics and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnav informed that nine new supercomputers will be added to the National Supercomputer Mission under the expansion program. Currently, there are 18 supercomputers for this mission. He told that 1200 startups of Tier-2 and Tier-3 will be given help. Keeping in view the need for cyber security, 12 crore college students will be taught cyber security lessons.
The Cabinet Committee on Wednesday gave its approval for the expansion of the Digital India program launched in the year 2015. A provision of Rs 14,903 crore has been made for the expansion-related program. The extension period will be of five years which will be considered from the financial year 2021-22 and this extension program will run till the financial year 2025-26.
Under the expansion program of Digital India, a linguistic tool capable of all types of translation will be launched, with the help of which translation will be provided in all the 22 languages given in the constitution. Startups from small towns will also be helped under the expansion program. Electronics and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnav informed that under the extension program, 6.25 lakh IT professionals will be provided skill development keeping in mind the future IT programming.
2.6 lakh people will be trained under the information security and education awareness program. Vaishnav said that 540 new services would be launched on the Umang app for the convenience of the common people. Presently 1700 services are available on the UMANG app. Like the common citizen, now the facility of Digitax will be available for MSMEs also. Verification of documents of MSMEs for taking loans and other business work can be done through Digitaxer. Right now 400 million people are using DigiLocker.

Three Centers of Excellence related to Artificial Intelligence (AI) will be opened for health, education, and sustainable city models. The National Knowledge Network will be modernized to which 1787 educational institutions are connected. Vaishnav said that the expansion program of Digital India will help in boosting the digital economy.
