Bengaluru's talented racer Koparam Shreyas Harish succumbed to injuries sustained after a crash in the third round of the MRF MMSC FMSCI Indian National Motorcycle Racing Championship at the Madras International Circuit in Chennai on Saturday. Following the incident, the Madras Motor Sports Club canceled all races till Sunday and the racing world was in mourning.
Born on 26 July 2010, Shreyas, a student of Kensari School in Bengaluru, was one of the rising stars as he won multiple races at the national level competing in Petronas' rookie category. At the national level, Shreyas also won the TVS One-Mac Championship, but after qualifying in pole position, he lost his life in an accident during the race on Saturday.
While exiting Turn-1, Shreyas fell off the bike and suffered a serious head injury. The race was then stopped and he was taken to a nearby hospital in a trauma care ambulance. The doctor declared him dead in the hospital. His father, Kopparam Harish was at that time across from his bed. MMSC President Thomas said, “It is sad to lose such a young and talented rider.
Shreyas, who was making waves with his prodigious racing prowess, was immediately taken to the hospital at the scene of the incident. After this, we decided to cancel the program. MMACC extends its heartfelt condolences and our thoughts are with his family.
