11 thousand vehicles of Central Armed Police Forces are 15 years old, will soon be scrapped
The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has requested all state governments and Union Territory (UT) administrations to take necessary steps to phase out old operational vehicles used by state police organizations, the report said. The Home Ministry has reportedly requested state governments and Union Territory administrations to scrap vehicles older than 15 years.
11,000 vehicles belonging to various Central Armed Police Forces have been identified for scrapping. These vehicles are used in central armed police forces like BSF, CRPF, CISF, ITBP, SSB, NSG, and Assam Rifles.
According to news agency PTI, these vehicles are more than 15 years old. 15-year-old vehicles are being identified so that they can be replaced with new vehicles. This will also curb pollution and the security forces will have advanced and new vehicles.
Central armed police forces like BSF, CRPF, CISF, ITBP, SSB, NSG, and Assam Rifles have more than one lakh vehicles as a combined fleet.

Under the Vehicle Scrappage policy, government and commercial vehicles older than 15 years and private vehicles older than 20 years will be destroyed. Under this, old vehicles will have to pass a fitness test before re-registration and as per the policy, government commercial vehicles older than 15 years and private vehicles older than 20 years will be canceled. Firstly, on 29 October 2018, the Supreme Court of India banned the plying of 15-year-old petrol and 10-year-old diesel vehicles in the national capital Delhi.
