Under the 'PM-eBus Seva' scheme, 10,000 electric buses will be provided to 169 cities. This scheme, which will be started under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, will be started in the next five-six months. The Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs gave this information on Thursday.

In a press conference, Union Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said that soon the Central Government is going to buy air-conditioned buses for this. Housing and Urban Affairs Secretary, Manoj Joshi, said the scheme will be launched in 169 cities and states will have to submit their proposals by September 30.

Manoj Joshi said that the guidelines were issued two days ago. The official said, "These electric buses will have a metro-like experience. According to Joshi, tickets for this bus will also be available through the automatic fare system. Under the scheme, the operators running these buses will be paid Rs 20-40 per kilometer. Will go

Puri said the scheme involves the Centre, state governments, and service providers. He expressed confidence that the PM E-Bus scheme would work very well. The Union Cabinet had approved the scheme earlier this month. The estimated cost of the scheme will be Rs 57,613 crore, out of which Rs 20,000 crore will be given by the central government and the remaining amount will be borne by the state.

The government said that priority would be given to gymnasium cities that do not have a systematic bus service. This scheme will continue till 2037. The plan will have two parts, namely the expansion of city bus services in 169 cities and the introduction of green urban mobility in 181 cities. E-buses will be made available in cities with a population of 3 lakh to 40 lakh.

Union minister Anurag Thakur said earlier this month, "Cities will be selected through a challenge for this scheme. Out of the total Rs 20,000 crore to be given by the Government of India, Rs 15,930 crore will be for buses, and Rs 2,264 crore will be for infrastructure development and back-end facilities. In addition, Rs 1,506 crore will be for green urban mobility."

The Union Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry said that under the scheme, cities will be responsible for running bus services and paying bus operators.
